SHPE NBOD meeting - Fort Worth

Today was the last day of three days of NBOD meetings and training.  Below are some highlights.

Friday Training
We started off Friday night with training on how to run our meeting in a more strategic way.  In the past, the NBOD has been a hands-on operational board.  We are moving the board to be more strategic board and thus we began the process of training so that we can change the mind set and structure of our meetings to meet that goal.

Saturday - A New Agenda, Region V Presentation
Saturday was the first day of the new agenda format with the goal of focusing our meeting to be more effective.  We are definitely in a transition period with will take some time to get used to.  In the evening came what is always the most motivational part of our meetings.  We were able to hear from several SHPE Jr., College, and Professional chapters.  It is exciting to see all the great work and inspirational people serving our great organization.

Sunday - Budget, SHPE ERG National Initiative
Sunday I presented the modified national budget. We had to readjust since we did have some missed goals on revenue and expenses.  This topic always spurs many discussions and this meeting was full of them related to the budget.  Overall, I do have to say that because of the outstanding staff that the budget and finances of the organization are definitely heading in the right direction.

Lastly, I presented on the SHPE Employee Resource Group National Initiative business plan.  This is what we hope will be a game changing initiative that will benefit companies, professionals, and our organization for years to come.  More information will be coming soon.

These are just some of the highlights of many highlights.  If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

Thanks,

Michael Gutierrez
SHPE National Treasurer

SHPE Election 2011: Know Who You are Voting For

SHPE familia, as you consider who to vote for this election, please take the time to talk the most experienced members of our organization and our national board about the candidates. Check the statistics of our organization and find out what has gone well and what has not. You will find that there are those that serve but do not have the time for our organization and our communities and then you will find there are those that give passionately and selflessly to the organization. Some serve for personal gain and some serve to build a better future for those that come after them. It is imperative that we have the best leaders, right now.  Know who you are voting for...

SHPE Elections 2011

SHPE familia, Two years ago I ran for SHPE National President and came within 21 votes of winning. Many of you have been asking me if I will run again this year.  I plan to formally announce my intent within the next couple of days. –Michael G, SHPE National Treasurer.

Voting Will Soon be Closed

SHPE Familia,

Voting is about to close this Friday May 21st at 6pm PDT, so please be sure to take the time to vote and let your voice be heard.  Every vote counts so please pass the word to get out the vote.

If elected to Treasurer, one of the things I will do is immediately work to develop new 501c3 tools for new and existing chapter to use. These tools will aid new chapters with the application process and will aid existing chapters with their IRS reporting requirements. As a past chapter president and past Region 5 VP I know the struggles that chapters go through regarding 501c3 status.  I will help ensure that SHPE national is the resource it should be to the chapters.
